b'Survivor Assistance Program- Israel Northern GalileeGalila (also on page 14) is a grassroots organization formed for the purpose of improving the daily lives of impoverished residents of the Galilee region of Israel, primarily in the towns thatborderLebanon.Includedinthepeopletheyhelpare402HolocaustandGhetto Survivors. Most of the survivors came from the FSU, liveonmeagerpensionsandmeager supplementary subsidies from government agencies.Galilaattemptstomaketheir finalyearsmorebearablebysendingin peopletohelpintheirapartments, distributingasmuchclothing,shoes, heaters,fans,glasses,hearingaids,and otherday-to-dayNECESSITIESasits budgetpermits.Additionally,Galila administers an Emergency Financial Aid Fund (see Page 14) that it uses to help the entire 402 survivors from all over Europe (including the 268 who dont receive the subsidy.)HOThasfunded(i)emergencyfinancialaid,(ii)semiannualdistributionofvouchers redeemable for food and clothing, (iii) the purchase of clothes, shoes, and other necessities for these survivors, and (iv) has also funded repairs to apartments (many in four-story walk-ups) where some of these survivors live in conditions that are deplorable for people who suffered for the crime of being Jewish. Many of these survivors arrived from the FSU in the 90s, and are elderly, still have language barriers, and still dont have the proper skillsets to enable them to be a part of the Israeli workforce.We have been using un-designated funds to help these peoplewhohavesufferedsobadlybutwenowNEED ourdonorstodesignategiftstohelpthesepeoplewho are a living testimony to the horrors of the Nazis:(1)$9,927 to fund the next semi-annual distribution of vouchers redeemable for food and clothing for the 134 poorest Survivors(2)$57,389torenovateand/orbuyappliancesfor survivorslivingindecrepitapartments.Galila has found donors to match HOT dollar to dollar40'
